Some of you may be wondering why I chose to do the world race. Why leave the comforts of home? Why abandon everything to go on an 11 month mission trip to be with people you’ve never met and form friendships with people you’ll probably never see again?
Well about eight months ago, while I was reading my Bible, I came across these verses.
Matthew 9:35-38 says,
“Now Jesus was going around all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues and proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom, and healing every kind of disease and sickness. When He saw the crowds, He felt compassion for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore pray to the Lord of the harvest that He may send out workers in His harvest field.’ ”
Compassion: a feeling of deep sympathy and sorrow for another who is stricken by misfortune, accompanied by a strong desire to alleviate the suffering
What if we got it wrong? What if being a Christian wasn’t about just going to church on Sundays and telling people how blessed we are when someone asked?
What if being a Christian was meant to be so much more than that?
Everyday I’ve walked by people who are lost and hurting, people who don’t know how much God loves them. And yet, I haven’t taken the time to stop and talk to them. I could easily take one minute, smile and tell them Jesus loves them. It doesn’t have to be some extravagant gesture or require a lot of effort. But because I’m too concerned about myself, and how weird I might look, I simply walk by…
Can you imagine if Jesus had done that? If He saw the crowds of hurting people, and chose to simply walk by instead?
I don’t want to be like that. What if no one had ever told me how much God loves me? What if I had never heard of how Jesus died on the cross for my sins? How he redeemed my life? Where would I be? I’m so thankful for the people in my life who have shared the gospel with me. Who’ve told me how much God loves me. Who weren’t afraid of how weird they might look in the process.
We were meant to be compassionate towards others. We were meant to see people the way God sees them. We’re meant to share the good news of God’s love.
So why leave the comforts of home for an 11 month mission trip across the world?
Because Jesus left the comforts of heaven for me. Because God called us to love others, to share the gospel, to heal the sick, to help those in need. He called us to be compassionate, just as He is.
While I’m super excited about getting to be the hands and feet of Jesus while traveling the World, I couldn’t do any of it without y’all’s support, whether that’s financially through donations, or spiritually through your prayers. Each of you get to be a part of this journey with me, and I can’t wait to see how God works through us.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, and feel free to subscribe to my blog, share it with others, or make a donation to my trip at the top of this page!
Please message me if you have any questions or prayer requests, as I’d be happy to help as I prepare myself for the journey ahead! Love you guys!
