As I walked into my hotel in Atlanta on Saturday, I knew World Racers surrounded me just by the looks of their feet. The amount of Chacos filling the hotel this weekend was actually laughable. “What are Chacos” you ask? They are Racers shoe of choice. Comfy, hard, durable, all-purpose, outdoor one-shoe-does-it-all sandal. If you’re going on this crazy 11 country/11 month journey, you’re gonna get yourself a pair of these- I DID!
So with Chacos, backpack, head wraps, and water bottles galore, all 5 Squads (U, V, W, X, and Immersion- 225ish people total) heading out onto the mission field this month congregated morning, noon, and night for more training, worship, scenario exercises, and TEAM BONDING!
Some of our parents were also able to join us the first 2 days to get acquainted with AIM, the World Race, Squad leaders/mentors, and team mates (there’s a lot of people involved in this ministry!)! I was super thankful to have my parents support there and have them meet some of the people that will be my new close friends and family for the year.
One EXTREMELY exciting piece of news I get to share with you all now is my new route! Singing up for the Race you pick a route with designated countries, usually picking the “coolest” ones or ones the Lord most draws you too. But like anything with the World Race you learn that things change (usually do to safety or health concerns in the area).
So without further ado, here is my new ROUTE! (Order, not countries, still subject to change):
China
Thailand
Cambodia
Malaysia
Japan (NEW! First Squad EVER to pioneer this country with the WR!)
Albania
Bulgaria
Romania
Turkey (New!)
Swaziland (NEW!)
South Africa (NEW!)
As I lay here in my hotel bed for my last night in America, I think back on what a journey this has been so far. I’ve been praying over some these countries for years, considering the World Race for about a year and a half, and have officially been accepted, planning, and preparing for almost a year- and what a year it’s been! I think back to even 6 months ago and just having so much anxiety over fundraising, gear, shots, money, and every little unspoken detail in between. And now I am just at peace and so in awe of Jehovah Jirah- the God who provides.
At this point I have a lot of advice for “future world racers” and would LOVE to write a blog soon for you specifically (because I know you’re reading you little stalker, I did the same thing). So stay tuned because I’ve learned a lot, grown a lot, trusted a lot, and prayed…… A LOT.
I also want to briefly take this time to just say thank you once again to every single friend, family member, and stranger who is praying for me. As I always say, you’re a part of this journey with me so please don’t stop! Praying changes things. And I can’t do this alone. God will use you as a intercessor to do His will in my life and in the lives of countless needing the Gospel all over the world. I can’t WAIT to share more with you.
And to those who’ve provided for me in tangle ways- whether fundraising or my gear- you are not forgotten. I think of you often as I use my gear and praise Him for provided funds through you! OH and btw to you sneaky supporters. You allowed me to reach beyond my goal of $11,00 by Launch so you know what that means- I’M EATING A TARANTULA IN CAMBODIA!
LOVE YOU ALL LET’S DO THIS!
China, I’ll see ya real soon!
