A blog for future racers.

Don’t think you have to have it all together to come on the World Race.

When I signed up for this thing I thought I was a pretty “eligible candidate” with limited baggage. While filling out the application and going through the interview process I tried to look as squeaky clean as possible; meanwhile being open and vulnerable with my struggles and mistakes when asked. Because after all, if you’re going to be a missionary you have to be the best of the best and know your stuff, right?

 WRONG.

The fact of the matter is that we’re all broken sinners saved by grace. We have all got problems. No one is omitted or disqualified from “the Race set before us” because of your past or present struggles. We also don’t have all the answers.

If you’re anything like me, you’ll come into this thing with your guard up and your game face on. You don’t want to open up to all these other Christians because you’re afraid you’ll be judged or feel like no one could ever relate with how you feel, what you did, or what you’re going through. But I will tell you this: I have never met a more broken people. I also have never practiced so much grace.

It’s not that World Racers are “the worst of the worst”, per se. It’s just that for (probably) the first time in your life you will find a group of people you can unashamedly open up to who whole-heartedly, genuinely, and will graciously love you for who you are. They will love you through the tears. Give you grace when you’re struggling and STILL mess up. Pray for you when you’re hurting. Confess their, “I’m in the SAME boat” story after you spill your heart out about your secret shame.

We come from a society of fakers. No one ever really talks about his or her true feelings. We say we’re fine when someone asks what’s wrong, while secretly crying ourselves to sleep. We walk around with immense shame, thinking no one will accept us if they knew the real me. We can pray, read the Bible, go to church (or not), all the while believing in Jesus and wanting something more, but not knowing how, where to start, or how to “get clean” enough to do something great.

DO NOT FALL UNDER THE TRAP OF THESE LIES.

The Enemy has fed us lies for too long.

Lies that you’re worthless.

Not good enough.

Don’t know enough.

Not strong enough.

Made too many mistakes.

Can’t speak well enough.

The time has come to crush the lies, take a step of faith, and though you’re scared and hesitate, say YES to God’s gentle voice saying, “Go. I have more to teach you”.

We don’t have all the answers. But what World Racers do have collectively is the Body of Christ and the Spirit of God Himself dwelling in our souls. That makes all the difference.
