Did you watch this video?
Did you?
Did you watch the whole thing?
All 31 minutes of it?
If you didn’t, you need to.
Right now.
Watch all of it.
Don’t skip anything. Don’t stop watching it because it’s “too long”.
Don’t continue reading until you have finished the entire video.
Seriously.
Watch it.
This is real. These are real human beings. These are your children. Your brother. You sister. Your parents.
These people are no different.
So why then, are you just going to continue through your weekend, pretending you didn’t just see someone who had their lips and nose cut off.
Why are you going to pretend that these people don’t exist?
That their pain isn’t real?
I know what you are thinking.
Who am I to judge you? How do I know what you are thinking or feeling as you watch this video? How do I know that you aren’t sobbing at the end of this like I was?
Tell me,
when was the last time you watched a World Vision commercial (you know, the ones that ask for only a dollar a day to save a child’s life?) and it moved you to tears?
I watched one yesterday and cried for an hour.
Sure, I’m a wimp. I know.
But really.
When was the last time you sat beside a homeless person on the street and let him tell you his story?
When was the last time you LOVED someone who you just don’t want to love?
Don’t get me wrong.
I am so so guilty of these things as well.
I am just trying to make you feel something.
Anything!
In North America, we are so wrapped up in ourselves that we don’t see the world that’s hurting.
And let’s be honest.
Throwing some money at an orphanage or charity once and a while may make you feel good, but what is money to the orphan that cries herself to sleep every night because she misses her parents? Or the fact that she wakes up screaming from nightmares because she relives watching her parents die every night in her sleep? Or the 10 year old boy who was ripped from his family and forced to kill his friends, people in his village, for fear of being killed himself? Do you think money is going to cure him of the guilt that weighs on his shoulder? Do you think money is going to hug the little girl and tell her that her Heavenly Father will never leave her?
When are we going to stop caring about ourselves above everyone else?
Can we stop staring at ourselves in the mirror for one second to see the situation around us?
There are over 2 million people that die every day for nothing.
And you don’t even care do you?
They are just numbers to you.
This is my heart. And my anger is in no way directed at you as an individual. I am angry at the situation, and the fact that our culture says that our lives are about seeing who can get the most money, drive the nicest car and live in the nicest house.
I am so done with this life.
I don’t want to live in a world where children fight in wars, or where children are used as sex toys, or where millions of people die every day while we sit in our fancy houses hoarding all our money and letting it destroy us.
Isn’t there something more that your heart longs for?
Don’t you sit at your desk of the multi-million dollar corporation that you created and wonder if there is more?
Don’t you want more?
The time for change is now.
What are you going to do about it?
