Dance with me oh Lover of my soul, To the song of all songs.
Dust was everywhere. The unfinished fourth floor doubled as our rooftop hangout. 13 of us crawled up the sketchy staircase with one purpose in mind. We were going to worship. The music beagain to play, loud and with freedom, as we all shouted the lyrics over our small town of Laredo, Peru.
The beauty around us is indescribable. Nestled in a desert land with strong mountains all around and the ocean to the west. My heart was already in a state of worship, even before we started singing.
Dance with me, Love.
The music began to get faster. The joy welled up, and I started to dance. I didn’t care that no one else was dancing. I didn’t care that people on the street could see me. I didn’t care about anyone else but Him. We danced and danced, and laughed and laughed until my feet turned black from the dust and my sides hurt.
As the music slowed again, I looked out toward the mountains, admiring His wonderful creation. Over the sugarcane fields, there was a bird, soaring high above. He flew up and then dipped low, circling over and over. He seemed to move in time with the music, dancing with His creator.
The gentle breeze tossed my hair around my face and I closed my eyes. I could feel the wind dancing around me. I could hear dogs bark in agreement. I listened as my teammates worshiped on all sides. I could smell the fragrance of flowers in the air. His entire creation joined in our worship. The song of each combined was more beautiful than any I’ve ever heard.
The knowledge of how big His love is knocked me to my knees. I felt so small in that moment, and yet, so intimately loved by the Creator. He showed me in that moment what true worship is. It’s not the music, it’s not the lyrics, but it’s the breath with which I sing the song. The life-giving breath that He gave in Genesis. He wants my life, my breath. Not my songs.
He wants every part of me. And just now, I’m finally starting to understand what it means to love Him with all of my heart, all of my soul, all of my mind and all of my strength.
Romance me oh Lover of my soul, To the song of all songs.
