My amazing WR bro Matt Snyder wrote this series on the Holy Spirit and I have asked his permission to re-post it here.  In looking at the posts I also decided to change it to fit my personal story–which is similar to Matt’s story–so you can assume the “I” statements are mine.  🙂

I used to be afraid of the Holy Spirit –
not the gentle and quiet covering of the Spirit that you can feel every
day, but the undoubtedly and visibly present Holy Spirit, the one that
you cannot deny is in the room (speaking in tongues, praying in the
Spirit, healing prayer, people ‘passing out’ in Glory, rain indoors,
gold dust, angels, and clouds of glory – all of it).

The
past two years God has walked me through a process of coming into
comfort with all of this, with coming into a greater understanding of
it.  I’m not saying that I’m an expert by any means, but I know that
for many people they feel like speaking in tongues is demonic, that
healing prayer was only for the apostles, that falling down in the
Spirit is straight from hell, etc.

There’s a lot of doubt.

I think a lot of it comes from a history of the Church not addressing these things out of its own ignorance or fear.

I have a gut feeling that even my own friends and family still have
reservations.  I know complete strangers who have approached me for
greater understanding on these things because, well, they just don’t
“get it”.  I think it’s great.  So I’ve officially decided to walk you
through my journey with the Holy Spirit.

Starting tomorrow.
