This weekend I had coffee (no, it wasn’t Starbucks) with two of my favorite people in the world and we had some interesting discussion about life, loneliness and love. A common thread around here lately has been the feeling of loneliness and not feeling “chosen”. I thought it was an interesting, yet sad, topic for the morning. A friend remarked “I just want to feel chosen” and my heart broke for her. My only thought was we ARE chosen; and not just by anyone, but by the Most High King. He choose me and He chose you. We are all a CHOSEN people (1 Peter 2:9).
If we are a chosen people like the Word says, then why don’t we walk in it? Why is it so hard to believe that the King of all creation would chose us? We explored this a little bit and talked about how the enemy so desperately wants to steal this from us, wants us to believe the lies he is whispering and to deceive us into thinking we are nothing. GOD says we are chosen and the enemy says we are nothing and we CHOOSE to believe the enemy. why???
Could it be that we are more familiar with the voice of the enemy than the voice of God? Could it be that sometimes it is far easier to align ourselves with the things of this fallen world than with the things of God? Could it be that we CHOOSE to believe lies more often than we choose to stand on the Word? Could it be that we fill our heads with pop culture junk, but fail to fill our hearts with the Truth?
I am not sure about you, but I know for me it is a choice. Every day I make choices that directly effect the condition of my heart. I choose to watch Ellen instead of pray, I choose to hit snooze instead of get up early for quiet time, i choose to make phone calls instead of read the Word. None of these things are bad on the surface, but all have an affect on my heart. It is so much easier for me to believe the lies of the enemy when I don’t have any Biblical ammunition to fire back; it is easy to be deceived when the Truth is not on my lips.
“...then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve…but as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.” Joshua 24:15
We need to make this decision in our lives and take a stand against the enemy and his schemes. We need to put on the Ephesians 6 Armour of God and stand against the devil. We need to CHOOSE to know the voice of God. We need to choose Him first.
Jesus talks to the disciples in John 16 about choices: “You did not choose me, but I choose you and appointed you to go and bear fruit-fruit that will last. Then my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.” He clearly acknowledges that we are CHOSEN; and not just for the sake of choosing, but so that we can GO and BEAR LASTING FRUIT.
The choice is ours.
