Silas is one of the funniest guys I have ever met. He was an original member of Team Awaken and spent most of Africa cracking us up.
My favorite memory of Silas was in Swaziland when we bet $20 that he and Sean couldn’t catch a chicken. They spent most of the afternoon running around chasing the poor chickens all over the farm. We have differing opinions on who really won the bet, but it is safe to say they entertained us all day.
The Lord has designed him to be a man who can disarm just about anyone and he meets everyone exactly where they are. Silas has no pretenses and is incredibly laidback. Silas loves kids more than anyone I have ever met. It didn’t matter where we were or what we were doing, Silas always a child attached to him. He was truly our human jungle gym!
He is the most easy going guy I have ever met and is always up for beating me in cards. He is extremely competitive and loves some Phase 10. Everywhere we went Silas managed to find a pick-up soccer game and entertained all the locals. There is not a country we went to where Silas didn’t find someone to play soccer with him. He is also a great running buddy!
As one of only 4 guys on our squad Silas was able to maintain some level of sanity with all the girls around. He put up with all of our talks about hair, clothes, etc…as long as we laughed at his jokes. ☺
Silas and Brooke came on the Race as a dating couple and were engaged while we were out and about. They decided to leave the Race a bit early to finish up wedding plans and start their lives together and we are all looking forward to our first reunion at their wedding in August.
Silas, thank you for being a man of God amidst so many crazy girls. Thank you for always laughing with us and at us and for showing me how to reach so many people with a smile and soccer ball. I have so much to learn from your outlook on life and huge heart. God Bless you and Brooke!
