Since launching in January I’ve compiled a fun list of items my team and I have learned on the race. Also I’ve included a joke and a few pictures to keep you smiling as we prep for a 15-ish hour bus ride to Honduras this Wednesday!

  • Sharing your sister’s pants – get excited, your 11 month wardrobe just multiplied times two!
  • Borrowing your neighbor’s fork because there aren’t any left (with month 2 coming to an end, we don’t recommend this anymore to future racers. Especially when stomach bugs/viruses are prevalent)
  • Evaluating your actual flip-flop/chaco tan versus your dirt tan. Inconclusive until you shower and scrub your feet
  • Living life without a mirror isn’t as terrible as you think. You learn to get creative with reflective surfaces
  • How much you appreciate toilet paper/kleenex. Never underestimate the amount of boogers you’ll have in the morning and evening during dry season in Central America
  • Taking advantage of your 3+ hour volcano hike – a free pumice stone. My feet have never been cleaner!
  • Coming to love a “widowmaker shower,” i.e. water + electricity = hot (or at least lukewarm) water
  • You can never pack enough anti-itch cream. See below.

Pretty sure the mosquitos in La Libertad, El Salvador out did themselves this time. I consider it a complement they find me so sweet.

Joke of the month:

Scene – Dar Vida team washing dishes and practicing our “Spanglish.”

Allison: Hey, me puedes echar un poquito de agua? (Can you put some water [in the sink]?)

Brenna (our other bilingual): What does “echar” mean?

Ryan (our next bilingual): Human Resources.

*Shout out to my bilingual PSSI coworkers back home!

Rainbows are everywhere!

We visited a widow (green shawl) and were able to pray for her and her family; her husband passed away a few days prior to our visit

Celebrating with a traditional Mayan ball game. Things are more exciting when they’re on fire. Literally.

Sporadic picnics on the hill as we serve with Go Ministries! this month. #PSSIinGuatemala
