“‘Are you ready?’ Klaus asked finally. ‘No,’ Sunny answered. ‘Me neither,’ Violet said, ‘but if we wait until we’re ready we’ll be waiting for the rest of our lives, let’s go.’”
—Daniel Handler, The Ersatz Elevator

Hello! As I write my first blog post, which is meant to introduce me to the world, I realize some of you reading this will know me. We went to high school together, or you babysat me as a kid, maybe you’re one of my college professors, or one of my amazing sorority sisters showing your support. But I also realize some of you reading this don’t know me at all, and I think that’s incredible. Whatever the case, you ended up on my page and for that I am grateful.

I do not remember a time when I was not going to church or praying before bed. I am beyond blessed for the Christian foundation I received as a child, and attribute so much of who I am today to my early years in the church. But now, I am ready to get uncomfortable in my walk with Christ. So, let’s go.

Today, I am a 23 year old recent college graduate from University of Central Missouri. For the past 3 and 1/2 years, I have been planning this post-college life for myself where I would be attending graduate school and applying for competitive publishing jobs. I had this picture of what my life would look like, and while I’ve always had a passion for travel, being a missionary was not in the plans. But that’s the funny thing about plans, isn’t it? One day I’m filling out an application for an internship and the next I am filling out an application for the World Race. All at once, on a Sunday afternoon, it came together for me. The Lord did not give me this love of travel for my own glory, but for His. Now, I am headed in a drastically different direction, defying all plans and expectations. I will experience the world with the sole purpose of bringing glory to my God.

Following my May 2017 graduation, I left behind everything and everyone close to me for the past 4 years, and moved back in with my parents in Rangely, Co. I grew up in Missouri, my parents only moved back to Colorado about 2 years ago. This scene is pretty different to me and adjusting to living back with my parents has been interesting. (Prayer for patience and grace is appreciated!)

Aside from my family, the thing that keeps me going is literature. There are few things in this world I enjoy more than reading something phenomenal. Whether its poetry, a classic, or the latest dystopian, I will read it. I just so happen to now have a degree in English literature, with minors in both Creative Writing and Marketing. I someday hope to make my way into the writing world. In the meantime, I read, write, watch too much Grey’s Anatomy, work, sleep past my alarm everyday, and make plans/fundraise for this crazy next step in my life!

I truly hope you are on this page because you want to be a part of this journey with me. This will be the place to catch up on all the wild steps of faith I will be taking whilst preparing for the World Race and while on the race itself.

Feel free to contact me with any questions and follow me on Twitter and Instagram: @allinakay

I will also be vlogging the Race! Check out the video blog here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCkNwppSnJQKML2E_nz6gy7A
