Team Bamboo wrote a blog together about all the reasons why you should date someone who has been on the World Race! Enjoy!
-
We are easily impressed. If you take us out for dinner and spend more than $5, we think you’re rich! (For context, we currently have a $4/day budget for food.)
-
If you speak English you are already a step ahead. Pronouncing our name correctly makes us swoon.
-
You don’t need to spend much money on jewelry- we are now impressed with bracelets made of rubber bands and yarn.
-
We are the most adaptable people you will ever meet. Change doesn’t phase us. 27 hour bus ride? No problem. Fit your whole life into one pack for a year? Sounds great!
-
We can sleep anywhere- airports, churches, 6X6 office units, bus floors, train stations. Give us a real bed and we feel like royalty.
6. We are easily entertained. Our idea of fun consists of tossing water bottles to see who can get it to stand upright, finding some random street pups or goats to cuddle with, counting the number of 7-11s in a 1 block radius, or finding a kids park to play at.
7. We don’t get offended easily. Some of our favorite questions in Asia were, “Why are you so fat? Why aren’t you married? Why don’t you get rid of those pimples?” We also spend a decent amount of time roasting each other on a daily basis.
8. You never have to worry about passive aggressive responses. We’ll tell ya how it is. #feedback
9. We have learned how to navigate all the love languages through 24/7 community living.
10. We can be confident wearing (or re-wearing) just about anything. Clean jeans and a T-shirt without holes is usually our fanciest outfit.
11. We are prepared for anything: bandaids, toilet paper, bungee cord, lice shampoo- we got ’em all.
12. Our ripped movie collection is pretty amazing. It’s true.
13. You’ll save money on the water bill because we have mastered the art of a bucket shower. We have managed to go up to 7 days without a shower and still smell pretty darn good. #thanksbabywipes #thatfebreezelife.
14. Take us to any building that has air conditioning and we feel pampered. #winning
15. We have great ingenuity. The amount of problem solving on the daily makes us difficult to stump.
16. We are professional lice pickers- it won’t ever be an issue.
17. We have learned ISG: International Sign Gesturing.
18. We are master navigators. Need to get to another continent by tomorrow? We know all the airlines, the best layovers, and are very confident with local transportation.
19. Our idea of an “ideal date” has decreased pretty significantly: feeding catfish by the river, paying for a soda at 7-11, or even just sitting in an air-conditioned room makes us pretty happy.
20. We aren’t easily stressed out. 52 hour travel days crossing several time zones, angry Vietnamese bus drivers, and 12 hour days of kids ministry has prepared us for just about anything.
21. Don’t worry, our shoulders and ankles won’t make you stumble with our world race modest wardrobe.
22. Need your accounting done? We have much knowledge. We can convert 6 foreign currencies into the US dollar fairly quickly.
23. Living on less than $10 a day for a year makes us some of the most thrifty world travelers there ever was.
24. You get automatic bonus points if you can clap on beat.
25. We have learned how to thrive living the simple life. One backpack, 5 friends, a few dollars, and one good God.
