Earlier this month I met a friend while crossing the Tran Thi Ly bridge here in Da Nang. I was on my bike, heading to the beach, and he pulls up on his motorbike next to me and starts talking to me so he can practice his English. This was a divine appointment. His name in Thang but in English he calls himself Victory. Over the next few days we play volleyball with him and invite him to an English club that we go to 3 nights a week to help college kids with their English. After getting to know him better he asks us if we’d like to go camping with him. He said its on a beach and there will be no people. My team, being an adventurous bunch, take him up on his offer. It turns out the spot was awesome! We played ultimate frisbee, went swimming, grilled food and made smores. It was such a good time!
While we were there he told us he has been on a spiritual journey and looking for truth. He was in the right spot 😉 We didn’t go too deep while we were out there but today I got a chance to sit down and tell him about the G0spel and why we are here. In Vietnam, it’s illegal for us to spread the G0spel to locals so we had to be pretty quite about it because we were in a coffee shop. After he heard the good news and had a few questions, he said he was very interested in learning more and wants to get a B1ble! He was so receptive of the Word and at 18 years old he is wise beyond his years. I’m so excited to see how the next few days unfold and to see how G0d moves in his life. I know he’s going to get saved and accept Chr!st! I also really look forward to keeping in touch with him after I leave Vietnam and continue to help him grow.
Here are a few more pictures from our camping trip with Victory.
