Nearly 65%* of the people I tell about the World Race sequentially either:
A. end up referring to it as the Amazing Race and are confused
B. ask me why it’s called a race if we aren’t running anywhere
The truth is, I have no idea why it’s called the World Race. I guess if I had to make something up it would be “because we’re racing around the world, relatively quickly if you consider that we’re covering three continents in 11 months.” I guess I’ll have to inquire about the true story behind the name at training camp… in 100 days.
In reaction to the concern that I’m not running an ACTUAL race with expensive sneakers, weird diets, and sweat bands, I’ve decided to do just that – an actual race. With sneakers, diets, and a lot of sweat.
On July 9, 2016, I’m running the Burn Your Half Off Half-Marathon – 13.1 miles through Chattanooga’s downtown area. Please, hold your applause. For those of you who don’t know, I hate running. It has always been a weird concept to me that someone who wasn’t running FROM something/someone would voluntarily go outside and run around for hours on end. But, now that I have reasonable bounds, I find it crucial to take advantage of the opportunity to raise awareness and funds and get to sprinting.
I haven’t quite planned the logistics of how I’ll be organizing my sponsorship opportunities or fundraiser blueprints, but stay tuned! You will be hearing from me. 🙂 I want to use this 13.1-mile race as a chance to get more people involved in small ways, help spread the word about my (world) race, and encourage support! In the meantime, feel free to donate $13.1 to my support page to show your interest! 😉
Here is an actual picture of me running from 2012.
thanks for reading, I love you, stay tuned for updates!
