In month one back in India, I prayed that God would give me baby ministry on the race. I kept praying for this every month, hopeful that He would answer that prayer one way or the other. After China last month (month 10), I wasn’t too hopeful. We had learned that we were going to be working at a girls home here in Seoul, South Korea and I was excited to be with kids again. Our ministry hadn’t said anything about there being babies, so I was expecting older children. When we first pulled up at the home, one of the first questions they asked us was, “Who likes babies?” My hand shot up. Heidi and I were chosen to work in the baby room. I was expecting maybe two babies at the most. But when God answers prayers, sometimes He likes to throw a little bonus in there. We were met with six beautiful baby girls! Our babies range from the age of 3 weeks old to 4 months old. We help take care of them during the day; feeding them, changing diapers, giving baths, holding, playing, and putting them to sleep. It’s only been a few days so far, but I am already so in love!
Many of the babies are here because they were placed in a baby box. Baby boxes have been put into use here in Korea because babies were just being left outside of churches and orphanages, vulnerable to the elements. A pastor here saw the need and came up with this idea of the baby box that protects the babies and sends an alarm when a baby is placed inside. The pastor then takes the baby and places it in a home or orphanage. According to an article I found, around 600 babies have been rescued through the efforts of this pastor here in Seoul.
So far, South Korea has been amazing! I am excited to spend my final month on the race here, doing something that I love, in a country that’s pretty great. It’s going to go by really fast, so I’m soaking up every minute of it…and getting in all of the snuggle time!
