A few weeks ago I had training camp for the World Race and for the first time I was in a place where 250+ gathered who are in the same situation as I am– transitioning from one season of life to another eagerly awaiting to start traveling to 11 countries in 11 months and do ministry in each country. About fifty of those people are on my squad called Y Squad or “La Ruta Roja” (The Red Route) and we’re the first all Spanish Route meaning we’re only going to Spanish speaking countries. These people were strangers before the week and after a mere 8 days with them I joyfully call them family.
Here’s a quick low down on 10 things that I learned or was reminded at training camp:
1. Don’t put God in a box
2. Let go of all expectations
3. Be flexible about EVERYTHING. Changes happen.
4. You shouldn’t use a tent that costs $22…..or it may break and you may get wet…
5. Campfires are the best….especially in the chilly mountains of Tennessee!
6. The lighter you pack, the better!
7. Giving feedback will become a daily routine….this will be a challenge as I am a people pleaser…
8. Be present! In other words… live for Jesus TODAY and daily pray “Lord do whatever you need to do in me that you might do everything you want to do through me”
9. I am an introvert (….what!?!….)
10. The World Race will be one of the hardest and yet best years of my life and I’m SO excited to grow, be challenged, and be used by God however He wants to use me in each of these countries I’m going to.
Now allow me to introduce you to….
“Y” Squad — La Ruta Roja! These are the people who are going to the same countries that I am. We won squad wars!! One of my favorite things about our squad is that not only do we all have the same desire to serve the Lord overseas but to serve Him in the latin culture — otherwise we probably wouldn’t be on the Spanish route…
My Team — Salmo 45:11 In each country the squad breaks into teams of 6-7 people. These are the people I will be living with and doing ministry with this next year. The picture below is my lovely team! Our name is Salmo 45:11 (Check out Psalm 45:11)! I know that this team is going to help me grow so much this next year. I am SO excited to live in community with them, get to know these dear sisters in Christ, and love the people of Latin America and grow in our relationship with Jesus together!
Launch Dates!
I fly to Atlanta January 6th for more training a few days before we leave the country on January 9th! Please keep praying for my team and I for the remaining time we have in the states with friends and family while we prepare for next year.
Also just a side note: I get to go to Colombia for 2 weeks between now and then (November 20th to December 4th) so please keep that in your prayers too as I will be seeing friends, students, and my colombian church family down there while going to a few places I did ministry at this past year.
Gracias!!
