This week my team did a vacation bible school for the kids in Corbano Sur. On Monday the kids didn’t have school so we had it at the church. I was only expecting to see the kids that always hung out around the church, not the hoard that ended up coming. They stared showing up at 9, even though we weren’t starting until 10. We had at least 150 kids show up for our VBS. It was a bit hectic but thats usually how things go here. We did story time, songs, a memory verse and tried to play games. It was so great to see the church completely filled with kids.
The next two days we were able to go into the school for VBS. We went from classroom to classroom teaching about Jesus and Zacchaeus and taught them the spanish version of Zacchaeus Was a Wee Little Man, a Wee Little Man Was He. It was great and the kids loved it.
This was such a good way to minister to the people of Corbano Sur, there are always kids hanging around the church looking for something to do. When we suggested doing a VBS with them the people didn’t even know what it was. There has never been something specifically for the children in the church. Going into the school was a good way to show the grown-ups that they can and should minister to the children. On Thursday we found out that one of the teachers told a friend about what we were doing there and it inspired this lady to start a children’s bible study in her house. God is doing a lot in this community and I know that the children are going to start having a larger part in the ministry there.
