As soon as someone starts talking about the States I am immediately sucked in and begin thinking of home and just crave all my old comforts. So it’s quite easy for me to say I am being challenged in the area of being content in all circumstances. Before the race when I was home doing my routine I felt restless and wanted to be out in the world seeing and experiencing new things. Now that I am finally out in the world I want to be back home enjoying my own way of life.
Anyways, it’s true, that whole “be content in whatever circumstance” thing. It really does change everything. It’s the secret to living. The days you are given now you will never get back once they have passed. Live each day with no regrets. Don’t worry about tomorrow or the day after that. Take heart in knowing that the Lord has already numbered your days and has a specific plan for you TODAY! Not only months or years from now, but TODAY. This may seem like a simple concept but it’s much easier said than actually grasped. I mean really think about it, how much would you change about your day if you believed that it was a gift and there was actually a PURPOSE for it and only YOU could fulfill that purpose? I believe learning to live in this mindset is the source of continual happiness, joy, and peace in your life.
This is something I am really beginning to understand as I’ve had to force myself in to this mindset on many occasions. Not only because of current not-so-ideal circumstances but also because I find myself wondering what’s next more often than I’d like. There’s a difference though between wondering about the future and anticipating it with so much fervor that you lose sight of today and actually forget to live in the moments you are given.
So yes, there are many old routines and comforts I look forward to coming home to but right now this is my life. To wake up every day and offer myself to God as a living sacrifice, even though I generally have no idea what is in store for the day, to trust God with everything in me because that is the source of my mental, emotional, and physical strength, and to seek a new experience every day (I usually don’t have to look too far). At the end of my day I can easily praise God for it and thank Him for all the blessings I received. And that makes every moment worthwhile.
