I have been in Costa Rica for 10 days now and I have loved almost every minute of it. Although no two days have looked exactly the same, I wanted to share with you all a little bit of what we have been doing here. We are currently in Platanar, a small town in the northern part of Costa Rica. Our contacts here are the pastors of a small but always crowded church. They are undergoing some construction on their house in order to serve more people at their church next door. We have gotten to help with this process by leveling the ground where the new expansion will be, helping plant a nice garden, and sorting rocks for the foundation. Our hosts also have a ministry called Fundacion Resplendecer which we have helped out with over the last two weekends. The goal of this ministry is to prevent children from becoming homeless later in life by encouraging education, giving the kids something fun to do on the weekend, and by introducing them to Jesus. My team has had the task of singing songs in Spanish and performing dramas (also in Spanish), as well as playing with the kids and teaching them some English. I would definitely say this has been my favorite part of this month so far.
Our hosts, Don Tony and Rosita, are absolutely amazing. They have welcomed us into their house and church with open arms. We are staying in a spare bedroom in their house and Rosita has cooked for us everyday. She is an absolutely amazing cook! We feel a little spoiled with the quality of our food. Don Tony and Rosita are the most godly, wonderful people I have ever met and they are teaching us a lot about life, love, and God. They have completely dedicated their lives to God and go through everyday guided by Him. They have hopes of opening a day care and after school program for the children in the area. I know this will be an absolutely amazing blessing to their community.
Tomorrow, we are leaving to spend a week working on their farm in Los Chiles. We were supposed to spend the whole month there but because it is rainy season here they decided against it as we would not have been able to get a lot done. I will be completely off the grid for the week and I look forward to it. I will post more about our Costa Rican experience when I get back from the farm!
