Here are some thoughts I had while on the airplane last week:

Right now I’m on the 14 hour flight to our first country, China. I’m officially a World Racer! I’m still processing the fact that this really is happening….

Today we had a layover at the Detroit airport before our international flight to Beijing. It was strange being in my home state of Michigan for a couple hours, but not leaving the airport. I felt like I should be going home, but instead I boarded a plane to China.

Thinking about this, I realized that even though I call Michigan my home, my real home is in heaven someday. This year I get to give up the comfort, safety, and familiarity of home to visit impoverished areas of the world and learn how to love them like Jesus does.

As I begin this journey, here are a few things I hope to get out of my race:

1.  I hope to grow in confidence in the Lord; to learn more about who He is and my identity in Him.

2.  I want to gain a deeper understanding of what I believe and how to share my faith with others.

3.  I am excited to see different cultures and gain a perspective of the world that I never could have by staying at home.

4.  I can’t wait to get to know my team and squad and build deep relationships with them!

5.  I want to learn how to trust God without borders. He has done a lot in my life already, but I don’t want to limit Him to what I’ve seen him do in the past. I want Him to do something new.

I honestly don’t know what to expect these next few months…. but I know that God’s going to do some big things! Thanks for joining me on this adventure.
