My time
in Kenya so far has been very good.
After the initial culture shock I quickly began to fall into the spirit
of joy this place offers. In the first
week I got to make Samosas with our chef Lucas, Dennis (our host’s 16 year old
son), Pastor Steve, and others who were in and out. All of us in the small kitchen made for an
eventful evening. We had a little bit of
music, a little bit of dancing, a little bit of getting our fingers burned and
a lot of laughs made for one of my most memorable moments in Kenya.
We have
kicked off our first week of ministry doing door to door evangelism. At first I was really not excited to do
it. I have never really been one to
force my beliefs on people so I didn’t know what to expect. My experience with door to door evangelism in
the states is when the Jehovah Witnesses knock on my door which often leads to
an uncomfortable conversation. So here I
was Busia, Kenya doing one of my least favorite things.
We set
out Pastor Gideon, Nathan B. (my new leader), Nathan S.(my old leader), and
me. I was still hopeful despite my lack
of enthusiasm to see God move. Of course
everything turned out fine and we all survived, he he. We had several great experiences meeting
believers in very tough situations where we were able to encourage them and
pray with them. One woman was heavy
burdened as her husband was not saved and he used his income to buy
alcohol. Another young gentleman had
just fallen away from the Lord and really just needed encouragement. He said as we left that he was grateful we
had stopped and he couldn’t stop shaking.
It really was encouraging for us to see God using us and brining us to
the homes of the people that just needed believers to stand with them.
Another
day we were out we saw how amazing the Holy Spirit is as the Nathans and I
would get different words for people.
Nathan S. would get a verse to share, I would get a word of knowledge,
and Nathan B. would be called to pray.
One woman we came across God revealed to me her situation before she
told us anything. That was one of the
first times that had happened to me so I really was in awe how the spirit works
within the body of Christ to encourage His children.
I am
loving Kenya, the people are so generous and loving. Right now it isn’t too hot and we get a
thunderstorm almost every afternoon.(I love thunderstorms) Things are still tight in the tiny house but
we are blessed to not be in tents in the rain.
God is revealing His power daily as I seek Him and it is so much fun to
be His vessel and watch cool things happen as He uses me and my team.
