Country number twelve month ten, I have reached
Guatemala. This month we will be working
in Puerto Barrios, it is a port city located in northern Guatemala. This area is very different from the Guatemala
I have seen before it has a very Caribbean feel.
We have already kicked off our work
here
starting with a local abandoned orphanage. About 18 kids still live in an orphanage that shut down a year and a
half ago. Two women beg for food for the
kids at the market, still most of the kids are malnourished and under weight.
We had a chance to bring some Happy Meals to the kids which they enjoyed. The
conditions were very appalling. One
handicapped child in a wheel chair was left tied to his chair in a dark
room. One girl had severe wounds after a
bike accident. We had a chance to get her to a clinic to get her the care she
needed. We found out the building they
are in is government owned and within the next couple of weeks going to lock
the doors so the kids can’t get in. The kids
have nowhere else to go, so please be praying for God’s provision for each of
these kids.
We also had a chance to meet the mayor and pray for him and council members. It was awesome to hear how they were having a fierce argument and when we walked in they said it was like dumping water on a fire. One gentleman began to cry after we had prayed for him. Voodoo is a huge issue in this area. The council members spoke of how they are often sick and have severe illnesses.
We did a prayer walk through what
is said to be the most dangerous community here. The local firefighters asked for prayer and
we also got a chance to speak with some local fishermen. God is opening up a lot of good conversations
and opportunities so please be praying for my time here.
