Can We Really Make Change in this Broken World?

I am reading a book now called Half the Sky. It makes me realize I am so blinded to the sufferings that go on in this world.  My spirit cries out for the women who suffer daily with no end in sight.  Why am I here safe with all my needs met and they are there being raped, beaten, oppressed, slandered and dehumanized.  Can I really make a difference to these women.  As the book points out, we may not change the whole system. Brothels, honor killings, rape as a weapon and inequality  may not cease to exist but we can change the life of one person.   I serve a just God and He will reconcile the world…while I am here I can mean the difference for one person.  I think, what if I were one of the women that others chose not see because the problem was to big.  So lets think about a MOVEMENT.  On The World Race teams of lets say 100 or so go to 11 countries.  Lets say each one of those 100 touches the life of 1 person in each country.  Thats 1100 people for only 1 World Race team. And there are several World Race teams out in the world at a time.  I have to be honest at times I think going on the race could be  futile.   But to be even more honest if I am to change the life of only one person on my whole trip it would be worth it.  And that is already done because I know my life will be changed.  So to answer a the title question,  YES God is already moving and there will be change in this broken world the real question is do we want to be part of the movement or not?  Do we want to be changed ?  I ask those reading to ponder these questions.  You may not be able to travel the world but still it is our responsibility to learn about the issues of the world.   Be open to supporting ministries that reach God’s people around the world.  There are so many that can rescue women from the sex trade or surgeries that can repair women after brutal rapes.  Whatever it may be I urge you not to turn away because it’s grusome or overwhelming…praise God it’s not you but it could have been.  Remember PRAYER is a powerful thing so be in prayer for these women.

Young people often ask us how they can help address issues like sex trafficking or international poverty.  Our first recommendation to them is to get out and see the world. If you can’t do that, it’s great to raise money or attention at home.  But to tackle an issue effectively, you need to understand it-and it’s impossible to understand and issue by simply reading about.  You need to see it firsthand, even live in its midst. -Half the Sky
