Why they call me ‘The Wall”, I’ll get into
later. It may or may not have to do with
me knocking several kids down on the soccer field. But let me start by saying most of the time
I’ve been loving on the children and showing them Jesus! See?!!
I can’t believe another week of ministry
has passed, dangit! I was just writing my first blog. Well, this week was just as blessed as last
week. Our days are pretty regimented
with early breakfast, worship as a group, split up for team time, instruction
from our contact Mandy, lunch and then ministry! After soccer and surfing we meet together for
dinner and fellowship around a campfire.
This is one of the sweetest and enjoyable times of my life for
sure.
Last Sunday my team and team Apex put on
church in the middle of a village on a hill.
We had no translator, only a few parents and a whole swarm of children.
They
were ready for a song and dance – so that’s what we gave them!
I grabbed my guitar and for the next 2
hours I played songs and danced with the rest of the group entertaining all who
came to see the white people act crazy.
We didn’t deliver a sermon. We
just sang and danced, did a funny skit and sat around and loved on the
kids. It was my favorite church service
on the World Race. So simple and
easy. No complicated song list, no tithe
offering, no bullet point sermon – just worship and fellowship.
I
love my life and the freedom to worship here!
Kingdom come in Coffee Bay!
About “The Wall”…I’ve decided to invest in
the soccer ministry all month because it’s a ton of fun and the water here is
so darn cold right now and there is NO way I’m getting in that ocean. I show up every afternoon, dazzle ’em with a
few sweet tricks:
Err…that
ball was supposed to fly backwards
like that…
And then I basically do my thing. I can’t describe it. It’s pure magic. And intimidation. Listen you guys, I played soccer in grades
5-8 in a SELECT team so I’m a pretty big deal.
They can’t keep up. I’m raw
talent.
Ok ok actually it looks more like me
running up and down the field chasing the ball and no one passing it to me
because when it comes near me I scream and duck. Or when I was in the box yesterday and some
guy kicked it as hard as he could towards the goal AND MY FACE and I put my
hands up and cussed…and he got a free kick and scored and my team just shook
their heads. But! There were those few times when I challenged
one of the kids and they got scared…because I’m a girl I think, and just
stopped and kind of tripped and fell.
That happened a few times so I started calling myself “The Wall”. I also started telling them that, really,
soccer is like chess. Total strategy of
the mind. So I’m going to stand in this
right hand corner for the next 15 minutes because if the ball comes over here,
which it will trust me, I will be in perfect position to just kick it away and
scream like hell! I’m so good at soccer
camp!
Well, now that I feel totally embarrassed,
let me just leave you with some shameless pictures of my afternoon activity –
CHILLING AT THE BEACH. Hope you all back
home in Dayton are enjoying your…well jeez I can’t even think of anything
comparable to this : )
