The rest of the squad arrived with no problems and we stayed the week in Santo Domingo at a Catholic compound. Spent the week adjusting and learning different things about living in the culture. My Spanish is coming back the more I interact with the people here and I am able to help my team out , which is exciting!

It has also been a time for us to grow together as a community and have our faith deepened. This week has been an emotional week for me (which is a good thing) as God is starting to break me and I am learning to depend more on him. I am also opening up to my teammates about what has been going on, which is typically something that is really difficult for me (sharing with people I haven’t known that long). Our teams have a time for feedback for each other everyday. I find this very encouraging and helpful.

On Friday, we packed up and left the compound. 4 teams headed to Haiti to begin their ministry there. My team and 6 others stayed in The Dominican Republic (DR) . We will spend the first month here and then will head to Haiti and those in Haiti will return to the DR. The 7 teams who are remaining in the DR traveled to San Juan and will stay in the same split level house with different ministry sites.

My team will be working in a neighborhood called Quijaquieta with Pastor Zelanda. We will primarily be evangelizing and teaching English. Ministry is very relationally based, so some could be building relationships through Sports, VBS, Home Visits, Block Parties, Evening Outreaches, Preaching at Churches, and/or Small Service Projects. We will meet with the pastor next week. This weekend we are getting familiar with our new surroundings – finding the store, bank, internet, etc.

I just want to thank all of you who are supporting my prayerfully and/or financially. I could not be here without you! I have officially raised all of my support money. If you were still wanting to give I would encourage you to give to my teammates as some of them are still in need. You can check out their blogs or send money in and note their name. My teammates that still need money are Sara Hansen, Krystel Kemper, and William Diefenbach.

Please continue to pray for my team…..I will let you know more later…. Pray for the people in Quijaquieta – that God will prepare their hearts and be open to what we have to share with them.
