Meet Gabriel.
Gabriel is a three year old Haitian who doesn’t speak at all, literally. He shakes his head yes or no, that is the extent of my conversation with him. The first day I met him I instantly loved him. My heart literally feels like it is going to burst with love. He wouldn’t even acknowledge my presence the first time I met him. I tried to shake his hand and ask him his name and he just looked right past me.
We go and visit these people who live further out in the fields and they always give us the most amazing coffee in the world. They grow their coffee fresh on their land. I met Gabriel one day when we were out in the fields enjoying coffee. His house is the house in the background of the picture.
We went back the next day and I just went over and picked Gabriel up. He wouldn’t let me put him down. The children kept telling me that he wanted to go with me. He actually fell asleep on me. I hated the puzzled look on his face when I put him down so we could leave. I plan on seeing him again before we leave and maybe even sneaking him in my bag! Its hard to imagine my heart bursting every month when we leave to go to a new place. 11 countries in 11 months means heart break 11 times but if being heart broken means that I get to give people around the world just a little glimpse of the love that christ has for them then I’m okay with that. Love can and will change the world. I’m stoked!
“Dear children, let’s not merely say that we love each other; let us show the truth by our actions.” 1 John 3:18
