We are living in San Juan with 3 other teams, 29 people in one house sharing 3 bathrooms. Talk about living in community! Team Dunamis (the team I am on) is working with the church called Fuentes de Luz with Pastor Victor. Our translators are Juan Carlos and Magi. We have already preformed 2 dramas in front of the church. They love dramas apparently. One drama was to the song “Take my Life” by Jeremy camp and we performed it with some of the younger members in the church. The other drama was to the song “Everything” by Lifehouse. It is a really popular drama. I volunteered to do the main part in the drama because it was so out of my comfort zone. They both actually went really well and the church was packed out! A bat even ended up flying into the church while we were waiting for everyone to get there and a boy hit it down with his shoe but I scooped it up (with a shirt) and set it free. That poor bat!
My favorite things about the Dominican Republic so far:
· The music…you can’t help but move your hips!
· The people because they are all so friendly and emotion filled.
· The coffee, by far the best coffee that I have ever had.
· The food, I ate a cooked banana and a cooked root…both was fantastic.
· The scenery, there are flowers everywhere and lizards all over the walls!
We have been taking cold showers which aren’t so bad because at least we have running water which we most likely won’t have later on the race. I don’t mind taking cold showers, especially since it gets so hot here. The team and I have also done some street evangelism which went really awesome; the people here are all so kind and receptive.
Team Dunamis went on a nature walk yesterday which was so beautiful. I love seeing God in creation. Man, God is so great! I will try to post blogs on a more regular basis but we don’t have internet at the house and I don’t always have time to go to the internet café. Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts.
