“We locked eyes, and I knew I was done for.”

That was the first day of class at Salt and Light ministries, and I saw the smiling faces of the adorable young boys we would be teaching. Salt and Light Ministries is a school for the boys around the community to voluntarily attend, and learn bible, English, and life skills. Women in Nicaragua are treated very poorly as a whole, and Salt and Light ministries has a vision to change that by discipling young men of Christ, who aren’t afraid to go against the tide, and take a stand on the truth.
This was one of my favorite ministries, and I fell in love with the character of these young men. They were polite, and had a genuine desire to learn, grow, and help others in every aspect of their life. Their priceless smiles, and laughter were a catalyst to spark my heart into pure joy. I will never forget trying to work on pronunciation with them and laughing with them because they sounded so cute when they said “pur-play” instead of “purple.” They were so sweet and would include us in every sport, and didn’t mind going racers against students, because truthfully, it was a fair match up. I was sweaty and gross from playing sports everyday, but I was filled with love every night I went to sleep.

Love,
Alisha
