“Guys, he loves the crap out of us.” Katie’s word pierced the night as she spoke truth over us before we took communion on an Easter night. We sang, we prayed, we pressed in. The Holy Spirit had his way on the beach that night.
We planned to burn things that we wanted to give to the Lord. It could be anything from lust, to fear, to disobedience. It was a night to give to the Lord and think on all that he had done for us. Kayce circled up some stones and we threw in our papers and tried to light the flame. After a couple of failed attempts, a young man walked by and offered to help us. He got the flame going and we prayed over our notes and threw them in at different times through our prayers. As we continued to toss them into the fire, I realized that the boy didn’t leave. He just stood and watched. We danced freely, worshipped boldly, and spoke the love of Jesus into the atmosphere. Still the boy stood. He didn’t say anything, he didn’t interrupt, and he didn’t mock. I’m not sure why of all people the Lord sent him to us, but I think that maybe the boy got something he didn’t expect. We thanked him for helping us, and he nodded and smiled as we walked towards our cab drivers.
I don’t know anything about this boy, and I don’t know where he’s at in life, or where he’s been. All that I can hope is that something changed in the atmosphere for him that night, and he doesn’t run from it.
“Death could not hold you, the veil torn before you, you silenced the boast of sin and grave. The heavens are roaring, the praise of your glory, for you are raised to life again. You have no rival, you have no equal, now and forever God you reign.” -What A Beautiful Name, Hillsong Worship
