During my time in Phuket, my team worked alongside SHE ministries which help the women who work in the bars find better jobs. SHE was Co-founded by Mark and Sharon Biddell in 2006 and has helped many women get out of the bars.
As we made connections with the bar women, we invited them to come to lunch and an English class that are both held at SHE at no cost at all. There, the women are given information about the program and what the future could hold for them. If the women decide they would like to be part of SHE, they MUST leave the bars for good; the bar women cannot work at SHE and the bars simultaneously.
While at SHE, the women learn how to make jewelry and cook/bake. The women train from 9 am until 5 pm and then they go to another training program in which they learn hotel service. SHE is about a four month program and once the women graduate, they can either work for SHE or start her own business.
