Month 2

Our assignment in Cambodia was very vague, but it intrigued us. We were told that we would be teaching English and “stuff” when we received our ministry information. That could not be more accurate!

One thing that really excited us was the fact that we would be in a village. I know for a fact that I had never experienced village life prior to this, so it certainly was going to be a different environment than what I could relate to.

When we drove up to the village, everything was so green and just beautiful. The hills were filled with shrubs and the grass had a myriad of shades of green. There were palm trees and rice fields everywhere. Definitely nothing I had ever experienced in my 32 years of life.

I was so confused when we first arrived because we had turned into a little dirt road that led to a little blue house and two little sheds made out of woven palm leaves.

Then I heard “We are here!”

“We are where?” was the first thought that I could muster up. We found out that it was “ALL THINGS” as my team mate Lindsey would say.

This was our school, it was our living quarters, it was Mercy House, and it was also our church.

Then finally we got to meet our contact, Vuthy. He was not what I thought we would meet. He was wearing a t-shirt and he was quiet and not pretentious at all.  He welcomed us after some of the guys had shown us to our sleeping quarters in Mercy House.

(This is my bed and area where I slept in the house)

We got a tour of the premises and then were taken to eat lunch to his parent’s side of the property. That was quite an experience… One that could take its own blog. The adventure had begun.

NO Wifi

NO Air Conditioning

NO running water

BUT Lots of joy and laughter and an open heart for the people of Cambodia.
