Cake. Ice cream. Chips. Candy bars.
Pop. Brownies. Fries…
We love these things, but they add
absolutely no nutritional value to our lives. They are empty. WE
choose to eat them, nobody shoves them down our throats. No parent
would ever make a little child sit there at the table until he ate
all his cake.
I am sure you can look at my short list
up there and pick out at least one thing that you like. So, do it.
Pick your favorite. Got it? Now, imagine you eat your favorite thing
from my list, and then you decide to go for a run. As you pick up
speed going down the street, how do you feel? Heavy. You are in pain.
You might have a cramp. It might affect your speed, your endurance.
Think about how different your run
would have felt if you would have eaten vegetables, fruit, or protein
beforehand. You might have more energy, more stamina. It might be a
little bit easier to push yourself farther.
In our spiritual lives, we have a
choice as to what we will feed ourselves everyday. We can choose
empty things that will impact our endurance on our journey with God.
Empty things that are awesome in the moment, but they become heavy
after a while. Or, we can choose things that are full of spiritual
nutrients, but they might be hard to swallow in the moment.
The world is your grocery store. Go get
some good stuff!
