These orphans have the heart to sing
praises to God in all circumstances. Christians in Haiti spend their
time diving into the Bible and having religious discussion. These
people have the most capacity to be rich in spirit because they can
only fill the voids in their lives with relationships, not money, not
entertainment.

Americans are distracted. We
have just enough that we get the illusion that we can be totally
independent people, not relying on God, not relying on anyone. We
constantly strive for worldly success.

I have met a lot of Haitians
that never want to go to America. They say sure, there is opportunity
there for education and work, but what is the trade-off? You lose
focus. There are so many things to do all the time that people don’t
just sit down with their friends and pray or discuss passages in the
Bible. People get so wrapped up in the latest and greatest of things
that they lose sight of God.

And we think we are
blessed.

It
is interesting to think about independence, success, abundance, and
opportunities as being concepts that might trip you up on your walk
with God. In America, it is so easy to rely on ourselves and to get
caught up in distractions.

Perspective
changes everything. I want to encourage you to look at yours.
