It is funny how difficult it is to sit here and think about me! What are my defining characteristics? What should people know about me?
Well…
I grew up in Trenton, Michigan. Throughout my childhood, God always came first. My family was at church whenever the doors were open, and wouldn’t have had it any other way. My parents were great examples of the selfless Christian that I strive to be. Some of my earliest memories are of going to Detroit to serve the homeless. I was always taught to love people, simply because everyone is a child of God. I was baptized when I was nine. It has been quite a journey since then, but I know without a doubt that I am never alone in this world because I am a Christian.
Mission trips have been a common theme throughout my life. As a teenager, I went on a mission trip every summer with my youth group. Those were some of the best experiences I have ever had. The relationships that grew deeper because of serving others together have been absolutely essential to who I am today. Along with my yearly trips in high school, I went on two mission trips to
Nicaragua when I was attending Harding University. The experiences I had there have had a lasting impression on my heart.
When I graduated from high school, I packed up all my stuff and moved to Arkansas to attend Harding University. I had a wonderful time there, and made some lifelong friends! I went for two years, but then God had another plan for me.
On May 17, 2008, my parents were killed in a motorcycle accident. It was extremely devastating to myself, my family, and my church. I have no doubt in my mind as to where my parents are today, so I don’t grieve for them, but for the holes they have left behind in many lives. I miss them more than I can ever describe. But, God works through tragedy. I believe that we discover who we are through the hard times. It is also through these difficulties that we can learn how to lean on God.
I am currently a senior at Rochester College, graduating in May with a degree in Social Work. I absolutely love my life here, and I know that it will be difficult to part ways with everyone at the end of the semester. As for the future, I have no idea what tomorrow holds for me, but I hope and pray that I can glorify God with all of my life decisions.
