We will be Your hands, we will be Your feet, we will run this race for the least of these, in the darkest place we will be your light…

Day #3!  One day left for us as a team… today, we visited three local nursing homes and it was soooo much fun!  At the first one, half of the kids got to go hang out with the residents and hear a man play the piano, while the other half stayed in another unit and talked with the people in there.  At the second nursing home, we got to go from room to room and pass out carnations to the women (there was also a man who played clarinet for a little bit).  At nursing home number three, we had about fifteen minutes to GO! GO! GO!  It was cool though, because even in a mere fifteen minutes of trying to talk, give a flower, and GO!, we got to have some really neat conversations and pray with the residents.  By the way, we’ve got a bunch of crazy little prayer warriors on our hands.  😉

We went to The Red Tomato for dinner and enjoyed some pizza and waaaay too much ice cream.  As for now, the kids are either swimming in the pool or hot tub or are in their rooms showering up and winding down.  I on the other hand am sitting in my room with my girls; they’re getting ready for bed and I am sitting in an office chair, typing on a laptop, all wet from swimming and drinking hotel coffee for warmth while reminiscing about the day.  Good times!

Some God moments for the day… for me personally, I shared with the students this morning that I was actually really nervous and insecure about going to nursing homes.  When I was in 7th grade, I used to volunteer in a nursing home once a week by going into different rooms and visiting with the residents.  Usually, I went to different rooms every week, but there was one woman named Ira who I went and talked with every single week.  Well, during the summer, my family went on vacation to Michigan (we lived in Tennessee at the time) and then the next week, I just really didn’t feel like going to the nursing home.  I missed two weeks, but because I felt bad for not seeing Ira, I made her this really neat bracelet!  When I went to the home, I practically ran to her room, I was so excited to see her!  Long story short, I found out that she had passed away while I was gone… I gave the bracelet to her roommate, left without visiting anyone else, and haven’t been in a nursing home since.

That being said, I had a great time today!  At the second nursing home, I connected with a lady named Irene for quite some time… she was so funny and had a really cool story!  I got to pray with her before I left and you could tell how grateful she was for the prayer and flower; she told me I could come visit her again any time and that she’d really like to see me again… time will tell but I am debating on going and seeing her again.  Am I afraid of it?  Yes!  But I also learned a lot today about the importance of caring for the elderly from our awesome speakers (thanks Gisela and Tammi!), and my desire is to live a life for God and his purpose, not for me and my fear of loss.

This is me with Irene, and her daughter Julie and dog JoJo that came to visit while we were there!

The middle school students were great today, too… they have a lot of cool and funny stories to tell!  Overall: great, God-sized day!

As for tomorrow, we’re learning about God’s creation, having a bonfire, and an after party!  Woohoo!  Please keep us in your prayers for safety and a God-filled last day as a team!  Much love.  🙂

P.S. The song “Solution” by Hillsong United has basically become our “theme” song… man, if you take a few minutes to really read these lyrics they are so powerful and so what we’re doing and trying to help our middle schoolers learn!  PLEASE take the time to read these… that’s what our hearts cry should be, to run with the one and only solution!

“Solution” Hillsong United

It is not a human right

To stare not fight

While broken nations dream
Open up our eyes, so blind
That we might find
The mercy for the need

Singing, hey now
Fill our hearts with your compassion

Hey now

As we hold to our confession, yeah

It is not too far a cry

Too much to try

To help the least of these

Politics will not decide

If we should rise

And be your hands and feet

Singing, hey now

Fill our hearts with your compassion

Hey now

As we hold to our confession

Woah-oh-oh

God be the solution

Woah-oh-oh

We will be your hands and be your feet

Yeah, yeah

Higher than a circumstance

Your promise stands

Your love for all to see

Higher than protest lines and dollar signs

Your love is all we need

Only You can mend the broken heart

And cause the blind to see

Erase complete the sinners past

And set the captives free

Only you can take the widow’s cry

And cause her heart to sing

Be a Father to the fatherless

Our Savior and our King

We will be your hands, we will be your feet

We will run this race for the least of these

In the darkest place, we will be Your light

We will be Your light

Woah-oh-oh

God be the solution

Woah-oh-oh

We will be your hands and be your feet

We will run, we will run

We will run with the solution

We will be your hands, we will be your feet

We will run this race for the least of these

In the darkest place we will be your light

We will be your light
