Our lives are full of things. Cars. Televisions. Restaurants. Cell phones. Wifi. Jobs. To do lists. We’re constantly distracted with something, by something. Things, on things, on things.
It’s like we’re trying to fill ourselves up with something that will make us feel full inside.
This isn’t life for the people of Mojos. They live in the tranquility of the mountains without electricity or internet. Without cars or phones. Their lives are simple.
It’s funny how a life that seems so empty can make you feel so full.
My team and I were blessed with a beautiful opportunity this month to hike 32 miles in the amazon to visit the Mojos people, an indigenous village home to 13 families.
Most of these people have lived in these mountains all their lives. They don’t know what IPads are or Snapchat. They know what crops are and taking care of your family.
Spending time amongst this village refreshed my soul and everything inside of me.
I wasn’t distracted by the things of life. I was distracted by life itself.
By helping Hermana Lurdes peel yukas for our meals. By tickling the village children and watching them strum my ukulele. By helping Nelsie hand wash her laundry and talking about her six children. By walking for hours through the jungle.
It’s funny how a life that seems so empty can make you feel so full.
My dear, there’s something about being. About just being as you are, as you were intended to. About not being distracted by the things this world has created. But being entirely present where you are.
And the thing is, that’s all God wants from us anyway.
To just be, and live simply.
To be who we are, exactly as we are.
So just remember that today. That you don’t need to work so hard. You don’t need to be distracted by things. You just need to be present to the things in front of you.
You just need to be you.
