We worked in Swaziland for one week. We did many assessments of health in the communtiy and heard their tragic stories.
Many are infected with HIV and are to impoverished to eat let alone get treatment. There are hardly any jobs to be found for
those who are well enough to work. Half of the squad is staying for the month to get to work in assisting them. My team and 9 others are off to Malawi for 3 weeks and then will return to Swailand for the month of March.
Everyday the children would come in hoardes to the communtiy center. Everyone wants to be held.
All the children wanted to be our friends! I held the little one in the red hat for hours that day.
One of the Gogo’s (Swazi grandma/caretaker of orphans) preparing
the daily meal for the children. This is all they can afford to eat, it is bland maize.
Feeding the children.
They take their precious bowl of food and feed themselves with their fingers, while sitting in the hot sun in the dirt.
My friend Sidoniso is an 8 year old orphan who is HIV positive. He followed
me everywhere and just wanted to be noticed.
Hundreds came for the shoe distribution. We had stations set up where we washed their dirty feet, prayed
for them, and then fitted them with brand new pairs of shoes! It was an exhausting, but productive day!
