Today is my last day in Guatemala.
Today is my last day in Guatemala.
Today is my last day in Guatemala.

Maybe if I say it over and over again, it will begin to feel real. 40 something of us World Racers are packed into a school bus with backpacks full of souvenirs and cluttered wrists of bracelets made by new friends. Tomorrow, we leave Guatemala. But a part of my heart won’t. I have been changed and molded by my past three months of craziness. I have successfully lived with 21 people. I am best friends with a man 60 years wiser than myself. I have reached new depths with my family of 5 through the good, the bad, and the ugly. I have befriended multiple recovering addict middle aged men who call the street their home. I’ve consumed more cups of coffee in these three months than in my entire life combined. And let me tell you- it is darn good coffee.

Leaving Antigua broke my heart for a few days and more tears were shed upon departure from Guatemala than my departure from home l. But God has calmed my heart with the assurance that I will be back. And when I return, I have more friends than I can count on my hands that have welcomed me to stay in their homes.
