Christmas started a week in advance with an early morning wake up call for the high school students my team lived with for the month. We took 14 high schoolers into town to buy new clothes (thanks to a donation given to Rene Mycorn) as well as watch a movie, eat pizza, and buy snacks.
On Christmas day we helped hand out new clothes and toys to the 50 orphans living in El Shaddia. Most of the children have been abandoned by their parents and lived their entire lives as an orphan. The orphanage director always tries to make Christmas as special as she can. This Christmas they received multiple gifts, again thanks to a donation given to Rene.
Christmas evening was spent with my squad. We had the privilege of eating casseroles, mashed potatoes, apple pie, fruit salad, potato salad, deviled eggs, cookies, rolls, and a bunch of other food reminding us of home. I’m so thankful for the talented cooks on my team! Due to rain our squad of 50 crammed around the buffet table and found seats where ever we could. Ruby sat under the table and spilled her food… a grape rolled onto her foot and she thought it was a bug.
The night ended with a white elephant gift exchange, which ended our World Race Christmas in Swaziland with many laughs and joy.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from Swaziland!
