It seems like a simple enough question, how do you know when God is speaking to you?

Is it a voice that you hear inside your head? Is it a feeling you get in your heart? How do you know?

Well, the answer isn’t quite so simple, at least not all the time.

I hear God speaking in many ways. It may be a song that comes on the radio that says just the right thing for what I’m feeling.

Other times, it’s when 2 parts of my life are saying the same thing.

As well as teaching Children’s Church every Sunday, I also teach an elementary class on Wednesday night at my church.

Well this week we started back to school lessons. And the main point of our lesson was always having the ready answer. And our memory verse was 1 Peter 3:15, but in your hearts honor Christ the Lord as holy, always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you; yet do it with gentleness and respect.

The homework I have the kids was to read 1 chapter from the Gospel of Mark each night, and 2 chapters on Sundays. We even made calenders to help us keep track of our reading.

Then tonight, while doing some bible study, specifically a bible study about sharing Jesus and going out and giving that life and light to others, our lesson tonight was also about 1 Peter 3:15. About always having the ready answer.

When I went through tonight’s lesson I knew that God was speaking directly to me, and also through me to the kids I teach.

To always have the ready answer, we have to study, we have to read our bibles and grow with God. That’s what I was just teaching my kids, and it’s something God himself is reminding me about.

So how do you know when God is speaking to you?

The answer may not be simple, but I promise you’ll know it when it happens.
