If you were unaware, I really love music. More specifically, these are my favorite lyrics to my favorite song of all time.

“Give me motivation

Give me all my heart’s desires

Show me something gorgeous

Show me ’til my eyes get tired

Give me all the drums and

Show me how to play them loud

Show me how to move

When I can’t feel that You’re around”

Sometimes I sit back on rest days and think about how in the world I got to Novi Sad, Serbia. A few nights ago Izzy, one of our camp girls, had us over for board games and dinner.

Ok just pause and think about that.

She lives in a village two walks and a bus away. She came to get us, and rode the bus back with us. We get to her house and she has several of our sweet camp friends over and several other kids that live near her. We all huddled around the table and ate dinner and laughed and played games all night.

This place is so beautiful like that all the time.

Of course, this is the race and often something hilariously unfortunate happens. Like the bus you need doesn’t stop for you and then pepper spray accidentally gets sprayed and half the people you’re with begin to profusely sob as a result. You win some you lose some, I guess.

With one more day of ministry left in Serbia, my team hosted our last youth event for our youth friends. It’s called “Alpha” and it’s aimed toward people that do not believe that Jesus died to save all of us/ do not believe God exists/ generally don’t believe in Christianity.

We had tons of new kids we had never met before! It was gorgeous and chaotic and it rocked. At the same time, it kind of sucked because it was emotional saying goodbye to these incredible friends.

I think we lived this song out to these kids. (Which is my favorite because this song is my favorite.) After week one, our host told us to do whatever we wanted as long as we were pouring into the kids. So, we took it and ran with it. We let them drag us all around Novi Sad, we ran around and played games with them in the church late at night, we organized an “amazing race,” we had a movie night, we did everything we could think of to love the mess out of these kids. Sometimes when I doubted if we were impacting them, one of them would talk about how much they’ve learned and how sad they were for us to leave.

So now I sit here at month one debrief and I just can’t wait to see all the unexpected ways the Lord is going to work through my team in ROMAINIA.
