This month is just starting and I’m already excited about the work we will be doing. We'll be working in many different capacities this month such Hope House hospital, and City Care points and Rural Care Points doing Christmas parties for kids in communities all over Manzini. I konw must of you are asking what are Care Points, but i'll cover that in another blog later on this month. Today I want to focus this blog on our ministry at Hope House and what i've experienced so far. Hope House takes in patients from all over the country with different life threatening diseases. Many of the patients have such diseases as cancer, TB, hypertension, heart disease, diabetes, and HIV/Aids. Hope House has one main goal and that is to treat every patient physically, emotionally, and spiritually. They aren’t just concerned with the disease that each patient has but rather a complete healing of the mind, body and soul. Patients stay for about three months but if necessary they can stay longer. Hope House is known to have an 80% success rate for people that go through their program. The age of most of the patients range from age 18 and older, but they are willing to take in people of any age. In order to be accepted into the program each patient has to book their stay with the main office and be accepted. When a patient moves into the facilities, they have to bring a family member or a care giver with them to take care of the house that they live in. Each patient gets their own living quarters.
The Hope house was found by Father Laurence McDonnell in 1996 and they got their first patient in 2001. Hope House is a Non-profit organization that is funded by donations from different supporters. They don’t receive any aid from the government at all. Recently Hope House has fallen on hard times and it has tremendisly effected the amount of people that they can have on staff. Currently Hope House has three nurses and one volenteer doctor that comes once a week. The docotor use to be full time but the hospital doesn't have the money to pay him so he was unable to stay on full time.
The name Hope house fits this hospital perfitly. The staff members are all ways smiling and very cheerful with the patients, and most if not all the patients have faith that God is going to heal them. So they welcome us into their houses to pray with them and just spend time with them. There is one patient Named Arrow, and he is so awesome. He came to know the Lord 20 years ago and shortly after that he had a car accident that paralyzed him completely. Most young christians would have been anger with God after something like that but not Arrow. He has kept the faith and he tells everyone one that he meets about God's love, his grace, and he encourages everyone to keep trusting in God who is the author of lives. Six years ago Arrow got the movement of his arms back. When I first walked into his room I thought I would be blessing this man that was paralyzed but he has really blessed me everytime I go see him. His question to everyone is always, "Where does your joy come from?"
