Pray for:

Healing from the Effects of Communism & The Economy
-While communism fell two decades ago, its effects are still significantly felt.
-“The market economy has actually driven many to poverty while lining the pockets of the elite. Corruption reaches to the highest level while pensioners, teachers, doctors, and other state employees struggle economically.” Pray for restoration in Ukraine’s economy and provision for those who are struggling.
-“The moral vacuum of post-Communist freedom led to rapidly increasing rates of alcoholism and AIDS. Pray for righteousness, justice and compassion to shine forth into this situation.
-The poverty and poor economy of Ukraine have led to serious problems in human trafficking. Pray for those involved at all levels – the johns, traffickers and victims, etc. Pray that God will bring justice to this issue and peace and grace and hope to those hurting from it.

Ukrainian Politics
-“The Orange Revolution displayed both the incredible potential and the predictable humanity of Ukraine. After non-violent mass demonstrations forced new elections and greater freedoms, many felt Ukraine was on the road to widespread transformation. Sadly, much remains unchanged. Opposing political leaders undermined one another, and the nation remains intrinsically divided between East and West.”
-“Pray for this fault line to be repaired by genuine healing and reconciliation.”
-Pray for the needed political change in Ukraine.

The Church
-Ukraine has a “rich Christian heritage” and has been considered the “Bible Belt” of the Soviet sphere. The Church in Ukraine suffered greatly until independence, but “faithful perseverance is now bearing fruit as the Church comes of age and increasingly impacts society across all spheres. There is today a spiritual ambition and vision previously not present in Ukraine.” Praise the Lord for this!
-Churches are growing pretty consistently. Pray that God’s Kingdom will continue to be present in Ukraine and that the Church will continue to grow.
-“Praise God for the emergence of dynamic and visionary Ukrainian mission agencies who minister both at home and throughout the former Soviet Union. Ukraine is the Antioch of the Slavic world.”
-“Ukraine is a key nation, a bridge between East and West, Orthodox and Catholic. Slavic Christianity was born in Kyiv 1,000 years ago. Most Ukrainians are part of Ukrainian Orthodox Church, but it is torn by factions loyal to competing patriarchs in Kyiv and Moscow. The Autocephalous Orthodox Church condemns both for compliance with the Communists, but is itself beset with schisms. The Greek or Uniate Catholic Church, which follows the Orthodox liturgy and structure but accepts the leadership of the Pope, is also large. There is much competition for limited resources, reacquired buildings, and dwindling populations. Superstition and superficiality are widespread, but those with a love for God and the Scriptures remain faithful.
-“Pray that spiritual life and renewal, rather than power-politics, may govern structures and relationships within these large Christian bodies.”

Our Ministry
-Pray that God will give us understanding for this culture and wisdom as we minister.
-Pray that we will have opportunities to bring healing, restoration and love to those who have fallen victim to human trafficking and prostitution and that the reality of God’s freedom and hope will be clear to these people.
-Pray that joy will follow us and that everywhere we go in Ukraine there will be so much joy.
-Pray for many salvations and that the Lord will do a great work in Ukraine.
