Life here at Zion’s gate is awesome. Being here has really allowed me to see what I want out of life and how I want my family to look. Tony our contact is crazy and I honestly mean that in a good way. His vision for Zion’s gate is look something like the Church in Acts where Christians come together and live as a community as they impact the area around them. He moved to Honduras because God told him to; point blank. He didn’t know why, for how long, or even what he would be doing but he knew he needed a new start. Long story short he was in Wendy’s one day and this street kid came up asking for money and instead of giving him money he bought him something to eat. The next day the kid brought his friends and Tony feed them as well. Before he knew it the kids were coming every day and sometimes he would feed them and other days they would just play in the play area of Wendy’s. After getting to know Tony and feeling really comfortable around him the boys wanted to take him to where they lived. Most if not all of these boys either lived or hung out in the dump getting high off of paint thinner or worked in the dump with their family picking up things that could be sold for money. Tony then had this great Idea that he would just buy fried chicken and go hang out with the kids in the dump. He never intended to start taking in boys off the streets and provided them with housing and food but God had it planned.

Now Tony has about 15 boys and girls living with him, his wife and now several missionaries that were alumni racers that saw Tony’s heart and wanted to be a part of what he is doing.  There is nothing crazy special about Tony’s ministry besides the fact that he wants to change the lives of children that come from the poorest and most dangerous area in Tegucigalpa.  Tony takes children off the streets, clothe them, feeds them, teaches them about God, and he even has gotten them into school. Some of these boys are 15 and 16 years old and has never gone to school a day in their life. So as you can imagine it’s not always easy with these kids. Tony has cleaned the boys up but now he is working with character issues. There are days when Tony is so mad he doesn’t know what to do besides pray or he just wants to cry because it’s so hard to see that the kids could have a bright future but yet they can’t see. These boys have seen and done so much that is hard to change their old habits. They are still in survival mood and all they see is today and tomorrow will have to take care of itself. By the grace of God the change is happening within the boys. Slowly more and more Tony can see the difference in the way they do life and it’s all because of God. Tony doesn’t want credit for any of the things that are happening here.

This is where my life comes in……To be continued……..
