My friends and I LOVE to go camping! We love setting up our hammocks and tents, making a fire, fishing, roasting hot dogs and marshmallows and all the other fun things to do while camping.
This summer we realized how much we enjoy sitting and talking around the fire. Guys in particular seem to talk more openly when there is an object for us to focus on- in this case, a fire- rather than having to make eye contact (I guess it’s just awkward).
We have shared struggles, talked about our futures, and discussed theology while warming up, and gazing at the dancing flames of the fire.
As a group of my friends and I sat around the fire the other night, I thought, “What a beautiful symbol of the Church and her relationship with Jesus!”
The body of Christ is the most powerful group of people on earth. Unfortunately, we often forget that when we are engaged in spiritual warfare, evangelism, or the struggles of everyday life.
Believers often go into our day with a “me” mindset rather than a “we” confidence. We try to overcome battles on our own, rather than conquering them together.
I believe that if we, the body of Christ, start functioning as the Bible has called us to, believers will grow, the church will be edified, and the King will be glorified.
How does that relate to friends sitting around a fire?
As brothers and sisters, we must care for one another, correct one another, teach one another, learn from one another, and ultimately, glorify Jesus with one another!— THAT is Fellowship.
As we do life with one another, we gaze upon the fire that sets our hearts ablaze to make His name known!— JESUS!
Let us sit around the fire of Jesus and do life together rather than individually struggle through this world!
Let us embrace one another and go forth in the confidence of Christ and the power of the Holy Spirit!
Let us GO and make disciples of all nations!
