I wouldn’t call them expectations really, it’s more like I had assumptions about what Africa would be like.

I thought….

I would sweat more than I ever have before
-its been the 3 coolest months of race

I would live in a tent
-I’ve slept on 3 very comfortable mattresses

My showers would come from a bucket
-3 months of running water…2 of them with HOT water : )

The food would be corn meal and some questionable meat
-Tanzania was delicious & filling, had steaks and bbq chicken in Malawi, and my team gets to cook our own meals here in Swaziland

The land would be flat
-I’ve seen more green mountains and rock quarries than ever…oh, and lots of sunflower fields!

The land would be brown and dusty
-Everywhere I’ve looked has been lush and full of life!

Now, I know before the Race they said to not have expectations or assumptions about what we thought would happen. And while being in Africa, they could not have been more accurate.

This land is absolutely beautiful. Seeing God’s creation in this way has been one of the biggest blessings of the race so far. I have had many opportunities to praise the Creator of all creation. I have enjoyed my journey through Africa with my Father as He has opened my eyes to this part of His world.

I must also mention His body here in Africa. I have been blessed by His people in a whole new way. I have been loved on, prayed over, and encouraged in such unique ways. I have experienced some amazing, deep worship and prayer that is fully surrendered to the Lord.

It’s hard to put into words how the Lord is working here in Africa, but trust me when I say He is alive among the beautiful mountains in Tanzania, Malawi, and Swaziland.

God has given me many reasons to smile at the work of
His hands these past three months in Africa.

…and praise God it’s not over!
