A little over 3 weeks ago, I left my home in Charlotte to fly to Chicago for launch.  As difficult as it was to say goodbye to my family and friends for a year, the excitement of actually being out in the field overcame everything else.  After a quick week in Chicago for launch, we skipped around the country from New York to Atlanta and finally took a 16-hour flight to Johannesburg, South Africa.

I was absolutely exhausted from all the traveling, but thankfully my whole squad was given a day of rest with a ministry contact outside of Johannesburg.  Early Wednesday morning, my team and I left for Mutare, Zimbabwe with another team, Redeeming D.U.S.T.  This was my first taste of African travel and what was supposed to be a 15-hour bus trip turned into a 23-hour trip with a 5 hour stop at the Zimbabwe/South Africa border. Finally, we arrived in Mutare and met up with our ministry contacts, Jenni and Felix Museka.

God has been teaching me a lot of patience during the beginning of the race, as well as making me realize that I need to relinquish control to him.  For the record, I am a very stubborn, type-A person who hates to not know what is going on.  While I still get frustrated when I don’t know where I’m going to be in a few days or when I haven’t been given a budget and I need to get food and lodging for 7 people, God has shown me that when I leave it in his hands everything will work out.

It still don’t know if I’ve come to grips with the fact that I am in Africa and that I am away from home for an entire year.  Sometimes it even feels like I am back in the States.  God is doing amazing things in Africa and I love being able to be a part of it!
