10. Traveling for 9 months is only costing $12,488. That means each month of travel only costs me $1,387.56. And that includes food, plane flights, housing, and anything else that needs paid for. So basically, its a super good deal.

9. High school has gotten very old. Maybe it’s my senioritis talking, but I am so done with going to classes and doing pointless homework for grades that I am trying very hard to still care about. I need a year off before I go to college. This year will refresh me and when I get back, I’ll (hopefully) be ready to continue my education and not be so burnt out.

8. It’s on my bucket list to go to every continent (except Antarctica, I could totally do without Antarctica). After this trip, I’ll only have South America and Australia left and I’ll only be 19!

7. American food is getting kind of old.

6. A classroom is not the only place you can learn.

5. After college, I plan to move to a third-world country and teach under-privileged kids how to read and write. I can’t think of a better way to properly prepare myself for that kind of life than to go on this mission trip.

4. I live for a great story and good conversation. I’ll have so many great stories to tell after this trip!

3. I’ve only been outside the U.S. twice: When I went to Haiti and then, four days after I returned from that poverty-stricken country, when I went to Italy. Seeing things and meeting people I never could in America was incredible. Picking up phrases in another language- and actually using them correctly to native speakers!- was inspiring. Traveling is addictive.

2. Mission trips have always been a passion of mine. I love helping people and how much I grow from it. All I want to do with my life is help the broken people of the world who can’t help themselves. I can’t think of any better way to spend my time for nine straight months than doing just that.

1. God told me to.
