Last Spring when I was applying for the World Race, one of my biggest fears in going was living in community 24/7 with 50+ strangers for 11 months. For those who don’t know me very well, I’m pretty introverted and need my alone time.
Then when I was accepted for the Race, that fear grew tenfold as I found myself surrounded by 70-80 (very extroverted) squad mates. So I did what I did best at the time, and I stepped back into the shadows and observed from afar.
To be honest, I didn’t have much of a desire to connect with these people. I didn’t see how it was possible to get to know a group of people this large, especially when they were already connecting so well without me.
I felt like the outcast.
(Please know I’m not saying this squad wasn’t full of incredible, Christ-minded people, because it certainly was.)
But then last Fall I made the decision to defer the Race and leave in July instead of January. This meant not only changing my launch date, but changing squads as well.
Enter G Squad…
From day one this group felt like family. It was still a challenge for me to step up and come out of the shadows to get to know them, but I’m SO glad I did. It also still took some time for bonds to form, but Training Camp quickly solved that problem. Camp also confirmed in me that I was always meant to be a G. And I can now say with complete joy that I have 42 amazing brothers & sisters in Christ, and each of them is very dear to my heart.
That being said, there are still THREE of us who need financial support in order to launch in 2 weeks.
We’re down to the wire now. TODAY is the last day for online donations to count towards this second deadline of $7,500.
