In the Bible God spoke to people in the form of a snake (Eve), a burning bush (Moses), a blinding light (Paul), and so on. Those examples are bold and powerful ways to speak to someone in my mind.
God also spoke to people in the Bible through his voice. For me personally, I don’t recall a specific time when God spoke as clearly as he did to the people in the Bible. Yea sure, I have felt tugs on my heart strings and the urge to do something specific, but sometimes I can’t tell if that is God speaking or my own desires. I guess I just don’t specifically remember a time when God’s voice was clearly spoken to me.
With that being said, I have had moments where God has spoken through different forms. Some of the most recent ways are when I signed up for the World Race. After I submitted my application, I prayed to God,
“If this is YOUR will, let it be done.”
Well I had my phone interview, which I felt did not go very well. Right before we ended the call, the lady told me I would know something within the next 3-5 days. So I prayed again,
“Lord, if it is YOUR will, let it be done.”
Well, needless to say, I got a phone call the next day. That definitely came as a surprise to me, but silly-little-me kept doubting the idea of the World Race, but don’t worry, God spoke. You can read more about how God took care of my doubts here. God definitely has a funny way of speaking.
Well fast-forward a few more months after I got accepted into the World Race, and I am at a little camp called Falls Creek. (If you know anything about Falls Creek, it is anything but small….) It was the first night of worship and the worship leader stops singing and just tells everyone to spend some time in prayer asking God to speak to us during the week of camp. Well I was still praying when the band started playing again and man, oh man did God speak in the form of a song. THE SONG to be exact!!! The song was “Come Thou Fount”. I know, I know, you are thinking how on earth could an old hymn at a youth camp speak to me. Well then let me tell you. I had an idea of using the lyrics of that song as a t-shirt design.
God speaking right then and there may seem small, but to me it was huge. I hadn’t even decided 100% if that would be the design or not. I especially did not have a design even worked up, but I knew I wanted the lyrics of the song to be apart of this experience.
Those are just 2-3 instances where God has spoken to me about this experience. But he is still speaking to me, and showing me more about this life I am living.
Here lately I have been reading more, listening to blogs, and spending quality time with God. He is speaking to me by showing me HIS why on me going on the World Race. When I applied and got accepted, I thought this was a perfect opportunity to go on a mission trip (which I love) and to serve others (which I love, too). Well after listening to several blogs and diving into God’s word, He has been showing me that he is not only giving me my passion for traveling and serving, but he is giving me so much more. God is giving me the opportunity to meet him in a new way. He is telling me he wants more of me in a different way then I am already giving him. Oh, how I would have never imagined God would send me so we could walk closer together.
But even though God is speaking to me, Satan is still at work in my life. Every day I fight battles of doubt, frustration, the unknown, bitterness, loneliness, and so on. But I know now it is just Satan trying to get inside my head. Luckily I have a big God who speaks. Through this God is speaking to me through another song. This song is by Hillsong called “Not Today” That song is a blessing in my life right now, because Satan is here and is out to get us all.
With all that being said, I think God speaks in many different ways. I just think God’s favorite way of speaking to me is through songs and the lyrics. But as I write this blog and all my other blogs, I know that God is speaking through me. Because if you know me I am more of a reserved and quite person that doesn’t always share a lot of information. But when I sit down and a title of a blog comes to mind and words start showing up on a paper or on the computer screen, I know I did not do that by myself. GOD IS SPEAKING!!
How is God speaking in your life??
