It’s month 11.

The last month.

And I am doing something I never thought I would be doing.

This month I have the privilege of walking the Camino. Backpacking if you want to get specific. The Camino de Santiago (the Way of St. James) is a large network of ancient pilgrim routes stretching across Europe and coming together at the tomb of St. James (Santiago in Spanish) in Santiago de Compostela  in north-west Spain.

We started walking in Porto, Portugal and will end in Santiago, Spain. That is a total of 240 km or 150 miles.

We wake up each day and start walking. (Unless our bodies need to rest) We usually set an amount to walk each day mostly ranging between 20-12 miles a day. And we just walk. Once we have reached our destination, we find an albergue (hostel) for the night. We rest, we buy groceries for the next day and to cook dinner, and then we sleep. Honestly, it’s always a full day with everything we have to do.

Ministry this month is all about waking up daily and choosing whatever the Lord has planned. Something that is beneficial for the last month of this race. It somewhat is a way to prepare for life back in America. I have already met a few people along the way and it has

been rewarding already. Plus everyone is on the same journey so everyone is so welcoming and friendly.

Something that I have already learned so far from meeting other people is that this is a spiritual journey. And that makes sense. My prayer and desire for this time on the Camino is to seek what the Lord has for me. To listen because I have hours of time to listen as I’m walking. To process with him. To open my eyes to what he has for me. To ask him questions. To see his beautiful creation. And so much more. I want to use this time wisely.
